OOTD – Edgy Minimal

Happy Sunday my lovelies! I hope that everybody had a nice weekend. Today, I just confirmed another very exciting project so stay tuned to find out what it is! This February and March, fashionbarbieblog is going to document a dream come true for me (and that is as much as I can say for the moment). So, that’s all my news for the week and on that note here is a blogpost on today’s outfit.

Do you ever find that if you are looking for something (in particular an item of clothing or specific coloured accessories) you can never find it?! Well, this seems to be the story of my life. I have been on the hunt for a monochrome knitwear dress with a funnel neck since before Christmas. I am ridiculously fussy when it comes to knitwear. Unfortunately my skin is very sensitive to wool so I have to be careful, hence why I have to be so particular. I have to opt for a wool combination which is usually a synthetic and natural fabric blend. A viscose-cotton mixture is often a safe bet for me. Also, my neck and torso are not long enough for polo neck jumpers so a funnel neck suits me better. I found one in River Island and you can check it out here. It is incredibly comfortable, soft (100%cotton) and versatile. I would layer this over leather leggings or trousers with a waistcoat, with complimentary contrasting vertical lines against the horizontal stripes. I will mostly style this dress on myself with black opaque tights, ankle boots and a fedora hat. This is one of my uniform looks for a day in town with my girls. I’ll be wearing my signature Topshop leather jacket too. Taking it from day to night, throw on a statement necklace and an arm stacked with bangles and swap your satchel bag for a metallic clutch.

Today, it was far too cold for just my leather jacket so I wore my Zara single breasted coat with a detachable faux fur collar. I was channelling my inner Andy Warhol with my black bug-eye sunglasses from Penneys last summer. To complete my ensemble I wore my over the knee flat suede boots. I have searched high and low for a link but both my coat and boots are no longer available on the Zara website for Ireland. In my Polyvore picture above my boots are not even an option. They were the closest match to mine so apologies for the false advertisement. My coat however seems to be available so you might be able to purchase it.

Referring back to what I said earlier, when you are going looking for something in particular it is almost impossible to find! Working in retail, many of the personalities that you meet think that this is an urban myth. I live by this! Case and point – I only purchased my coat and boots Christmas week and have no links to allow you to shop for them! So guys and gals, my advice to you is to buy something that you fall in love with when you see it. I am not saying ‘YOLO, buy the shoes’ but there is nothing worse than buyers remorse for a shopaholic. As the saying goes, “Nothing haunts us like the things we didn’t buy”.

Pay Day Wish List

images
As payday approaches (thank the fashion gods!), I have comprised my list of must have’s for the upcoming summer season. Having the shops at my disposal either side of work, I have spent the best parts of my lunch breaks this week wandering around and mentally spending next months wages. It has been a long month with no new purchases and I have decided to treat myself to something. Here are what have stuck in my mind and have me more than excited about getting paid next week. My SS15 colour palate fundamentals are white, black and rose gold.
Pay Day Wish List

First up is the Classic Sheffield Daniel Wellington ladies watch wth a black leather strap and rose gold face. Painted as a must have item by our favourite bloggers last Christmas, it has taken ages to for my order to come into store. I love the simplicity of the Daniel Wellington watches and a black/rose gold combo goes with anything. Spoiled for choice from leather or fabric straps and a variety of faces, you are sure to assemble your winning watch. It is coming up with a Topshop link from Polyvore, so here is their official website to check them out on: https://www.danielwellington.com/global/classic-sheffield-298

Next up is a black floppy hat. Anyone that followed my old blog will know I am a fedora/floppy hat fanatic. I adore hats! To me, my summer staples are a big floppy hat and oversized sunglasses, fashionable and functional. This one is a total steal from H&M and also comes in beige.

Something that has been on my wishlist for the past year is a pair of FRENDS earphones. A real luxury item, I think I’ll cash in and use my birthday to get them. Available in black and white, there are a multitude of headphone discs you can get. No surprise here that I am going for the white and Taylor Rose Gold headphones:http://eu.wearefrends.com/women/collection/taylor-rose-gold_27/

When it comes to jeans shopping I have two rules: 1)Do not go jeans shopping and 2)When you find your jeans, buy them in every colour/denim wash available. I am a confirmed shopaholic but I lack my usual enthusiasm when it comes to wading around the denim section. I believe jeans are meant to jump out at you and that is exactly what happened to me with my white ripped skinnies. Despite having white ripped skinny jeans (I don’t do flares) on my must have’s list for the season, I happened upon them by accident. Even better, River Island are doing 20% off online orders for Irish clients until the 8th of April with the following code: EIRESTYLESS15 Happy shopping!

We all know I have a fondness for iPhone cases, especially the Moschino ones. I love the new case from the ready-to-bear (get it) range. I love how his t-shirt reads ‘this is not a moschino toy’. When I can’t afford Moschino, I feel better knowing at least my phone reflects my fashionable taste.

After making reference to my ultimate summer accessories combination, I came across these taupe sunglasses in Aldo. I steall at €11, or two pairs for €20, my drawers are full of Aldo sunglasses. From aviator inspired glasses to oversized shades, you will find the right frames for your face. I thought the taupe colour was a nice alternative to black coming into the summertime. If anybody is looking to replace or treat themself to some new sunnies, I would highly recommend Aldo! http://www.aldoshoes.com/uk/en_UK/accessories/women%27s/sunglasses/c/311?show=All&viewAll=false&sort=

It’s all about the fringe! This season fringe has exploaded into our stores. Clothing, footwear, accessories are tassle-tastic this S/S. I can’t say I’m sold on it but I have seen a few pieces i could be more than comfortable to wear to promote this seasonal trend. I am a bag girl, bags are my vice but I am so particular and fussy. I found this tassle-tastic tote, also available at Aldo. Black is transitional even if the fringe is not. It is a nice way to introduce a trend to your wardrobe staples without investing in the latest fads. To be honest, most of my handbags have come from Aldo. Again, I cannot recommend them high enough! I really like tote bags (like, totes!) and this black fringe one is gorgeous. At only €55, Aldo take 10% student discound with valid student cards.

Last but not least are these rose gold beauties from Office. They could not be any less my personal style but I have been dreaming about them since we met last Tuesday! These sandals would be gorgeous with denim or white jeans. I’m not a huge sandals person but I know I need these in my life and think that these are what I’m buying for myself come Tuesday.

So fashionistas, if you could get one and only one item off my wish list what would it be? At the moment, the rose gold sandals from Office are my priority for Tuesday. Have you got anything you’re treating yourself to this payday?
